Tanya Wheeless graduated from the Arizona State University College of Law in 2001, magna cum laude. Before joining the Arizona Bankers Association, Ms. Wheeless practiced in the Phoenix office of Steptoe & Johnson LLP, a corporate law firm based in Washington D.C. While at Steptoe & Johnson Ms. Wheeless lobbied on behalf clients from a variety of fields, including the financial and insurance industries. Notably, Ms. Wheeless represented the Arizona Bankers Association, the American Insurance Association, the Motion Picture Industry of America and American Express.
Ms. Wheeless is currently the President and CEO of the Arizona Bankers Association, a one hundred year old association representing 70 banks and credit card companies in Arizona. As President & CEO, Ms. Wheeless is the Association’s primary lobbyist at the federal and state levels as well as its media spokesperson.
Ms. Wheeless has commented in various publications on banking issues including the Wall Street Journal, the American Banker, the Arizona Republic, the Phoenix Business Journal and the Arizona Daily Star. She has also appeared on The Pat McMahon Show and Bloomberg news radio’s “Simply Put.”
Ms. Wheeless is the youngest state banking association executive in the country and one of only five women to hold the position nationally.
