Robert Meza

Representative Robert Meza is a third generation Phoenician from a Mexican-American family, where social justice issues were discussed at the dinner table. These nightly deliberations, with his close-knit family, instilled a sense of social responsibility early in Robert’s life.

Upon graduation from high school, Robert was accepted to the University of Notre Dame. While there, he was actively involved in a number of community projects including efforts to help the homeless; people with cognitive disabilities and migrant workers. His passion for social justice was evident while honing his community development skills.

After graduating from the University of Notre Dame, Robert began his career in the private sector in banking and finance. While working in the private sector, Robert also voluteered with community organizations such as Friendly House, the Muscular Dystrophy Association and the Phoenix Theatre. It was Robert’s ability to connect people and organizations from disparate backgrounds that attracted him to politics. He knew that as a State Legislator, his ability to bring the needs of those whose voices aren’t always heard - would be enhanced. He also knew that his background in banking and finance had served him well by exposing him to fiscally responsible solutions. In 2000, Robert ran for the Arizona Legislature and won a seat in the House of Representatives.

Today, entering his fourth term as a State Representative, Robert carries on his lifelong pursuit of social justice. His leadership and vision continue to create synergies between people from the political, non-profit and corporate arenas. His most recent example is the creation American Latino Leadership Institute (ALLI) which creates paths for leaders in the Latino community, not only for themselves but for future generations.

Currently, Robert is the Board President of Parenting Arizona and sits on the board of the YMCA and the Arizona Chapter of Autism Care and Treatment (ACT) Today. He is a strong ally for Equality Arizona, an organization he believes is vitally important for Arizona, which advocates against the discrimination of all people, no matter gender or sexuality.

As much as Representative Meza has accomplished, his values are unaffected. He is known for remaining accessible and committed to helping others. And for hosting great events! Some things will never change.
